East of the Sun

One of my favorite fairytales is the Norwegian story, “East of the Sun, West of the Moon.” It weaves a story of redemption through the journey of our unnamed female protagonist, from her beginnings as the youngest child of the poorest woodcutter in the land, to her marriage to a white bear prince, through betrayal and then, finally, a valiant rescue and a return of what she had been chosen to have. We find the girl here being taken from her home and carried to wonders that she has never yet seen before, but there is trouble lurking in the shadows.
